Movie Night: Sacrilege

I entered a contest on Instagram to win a signed copy of a movie call Sacrilege by Paul Catalanotto. To my surprise I won which was pretty cool since this was the first contest I've won! So I decided to have a movie night and do a little review of the movie.

The movie is about a girl named Jessica who stops at a yard sale and finds a gift for her best friend. Everything seems cool until her best friend ends up dead. She comes to find out that it's a Devils Box and is way more than she bargained for (hehe sorry for the cheesy pun).

She winds up getting help from a couple of Ghost Hunters who seem to know how to fix the problem. I can't tell you what happens from there, you'll just have to watch and see lol.

The Good: I liked the story line. It did differ a little from some of the other yard sale find cursed objects movies like The Possession and Wish Upon (both of which I liked a lot!)
The movie had some good jump scares and a creepy little girl....creepy kid's always make it better lol. The music and singing (the little girl) was nice and spooky and the acting, while not award winning, was a lot better than some other lower budget horror movies I have watched.
The camera work was well done and it didn't have that middle school horror movie/home video feel to it and the special fx were not bad for what they had to work with.

The Bad: I think the story could have had more depth as well as the character personalities. There were things that weren't explained much and just kind of thrown in there. The ending is a little abrupt. Not too bad but it is one of those that just cuts off.
Also, the cover is kind of misleading. I was expecting more religion involved, maybe an evil nun or something but there wasn't much mention of religion and no nuns to be seen. I think a pic of the creepy little girl would have been better.

The Gory: Well this one was low in the gore department. Not much for blood and guts so if your looking for a movie with lots of oozing bodily fluids, this isn't it. It had enough to emphasize what was happening though. Not all movies need to be super gory but sometimes it's just fun!

So here is my overall thoughts on Sacrilege.
It was a pretty good watch. Not knock my socks off horror film but far from a waste of time either. I love getting a chance to see low budget, indie films as much as high dollar box office movies. I'm always curious to see what tales people weave and sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. So give it a try and see what you think :-)

Hope you enjoyed my post! If there is anything you would like me to watch or check out, let me know!
